Simple Use Cases for Copywriting with AI
Here’s why AI tools increase your productivity and make redundant writing tasks significantly less painful.
In a faraway time of lesser technological progress—meaning, three months ago, during a balmy Oklahoma winter where the snow never stuck around—I set upon my AI journey by spending $589.96 on Jasper.ai. Now, thanks to iterations of AI on nearly every SaaS platform in existence, we are currently living in… (checks watch) the time of Chat GPT-4 and a waitlist for Bard.
It’s amazing being in the future, isn’t it?
AI assistants are proliferating throughout my stack, from managing my content in Notion to scheduling social posts on Buffer. And in all honesty, I have yet to use most of them. The only way I’ve ever adopted a new tool is to have a specific outcome I need to accomplish first.
With AI, that outcome was to maximize my time between freelance copywriting and working at a startup. And Jasper.ai worked extremely well for this use case, with an average reduction of time on task by 50%. Throw a nice edit and polish in Grammarly into the mix, and you get the same work done with less stress and no friction.
AI Use Case: Repetitive Content
From social posts to emails, the same copy gets repurposed in a lot of places. Well, not the same copy. It needs to be a little different each time. And for some reason, it’s incredibly frustrating to think of the tenth way to say the same exact thing (especially when it’s… boring content 👇🏻).
Cue Jasper’s paragraph generator. Absolutely my most-used tool and worth the price of admission just for the little gem, let’s use the generator to create three versions of some company boilerplate. I’ll pretend like Marketing Cake is a real company where I do real things, and you’ll be delighted and play along. Let’s go!
Human-generated boilerplate:
Marketing Cake is a boutique growth agency taking your brand to the next level.
I couldn’t do it. It’s too stupid. I’m tired. I asked Chat-GPT to “write a hipster description of a boutique growth marketing agency called Marketing Cake” instead.
Chat-GPT company boilerplate:
Marketing Cake is a boutique growth marketing agency that’s a little slice of heaven in a world of vanilla marketing strategies. Our team is a carefully curated mixtape for your brand, crafting unique and delicious campaigns that leave your audience craving more.
Jasper’s newly generated paragraphs:
Marketing Cake is like a gourmet bakery in the marketing world—no vanilla here! Our team is the best blend of minds out there, crafting truly sweet and unforgettable campaigns that your fans won't be able to take another bite of without seeking more.
Forget the vanilla strategies: we're serving up marketing with an extra helping of sweetness and spice. Check out Marketing Cake if you're looking to inject a bit of flavor into your branding efforts and show the competition who has the tastiest approach!
Marketing Cake is here to shake things up with homemade campaigns that will have your audience craving more. With an unbeatable combination of quick wit and creative juices flowing, you can guarantee the proof is in the pudding when it comes to our delicious campaigns.
(The last one is too much! 🤣)
AI Use Case: Boring Content
Being a professional writer sometimes sucks. It's not all indie album reviews and save the whales campaigns. (It’s rarely ever those things and they don’t have money to pay you, anyway.) You have to write about a variety of topics that you may not be interested in, nor do you really care to ever learn more … wait what?
Anyway, it’s not all listicles about scented candles out here. There are a lot of very boring words that need to be generated. AI prompts help me move past the dreaded writer’s block faster than anything I’ve ever tried. It’s certainly more efficient than the allegedly tried-and-true methods of yesteryear like locking yourself in an empty room until you think of something good.
There’s something so soothing about watching AI generate lines of copy magically, and for me, it reminds me of the real power that writers do have: making the reader believe. The novelty of AI is astonishing right now and making the internet feel magical again. It may become routine at some point, but for right now, the cure for writing boring copy is to do it with a robot friend. 🤖
AI Use Case: Recycled Content
Every company’s blog is full of evergreen content. While updating those existing evergreen posts with fresh content is great for SEO, sometimes you just need new content and the topic still makes sense. Certain industries have heavy seasonality, like the real estate market. Each year, there are going to be blogs on staging your home to sell in the spring market, tips for winterizing your home and why right now is always the best time of year to buy. So, recycle a prior blog and turn it into fresh content.
Jasper offers different workflows that walk you through the entire process of writing a blog, including a rewrite workflow. Paste up to 12,000 characters of your existing copy and provide context, like your target audience and the tone. This feature makes it extremely easy to churn out copious amounts of content. Within a few minutes, you have something entirely new. Spend a bit more time refining it in Grammarly, adding your own personal flair and you’re good to go.
